I've given a lot of thought to my resolutions for 2011. They're difficult, but I think I'll be able to keep them without much problem. They're really nothing more than habits that I need to stick to.
So, without further ado, The 2011 New Years Resolutions:
Buy no clothes (except tights and socks).
Now that I'm fully confident of my sewing ability, I think it's definitely not a stretch to commit to making all my own clothes, including coats and underwear and everything. I lack the patience or ability to knit microfiber into tights, so I'm leaving that to the expert machines, but other than that, everything (including underwear!) will be crafted by my hands on my machine.
(the one side note here is that I buy almost no clothes during the year anyways, so we're talking about a commitment to sew a few skirts and a coat)
Recycle & Compost
Since I moved, I've almost completely stopped recycling. I feel pretty bad about it, not because I think recycling really makes a difference (how about stopping buying all the crap that makes all the garbage?), but because I think it's an exercise in compassion for the environment. It's a multiple-times-daily reminder that my actions sometimes have a bigger impact than what they appear to have. And I eat a lot of vegetables and generate quite a bit of vegetable matter waste, so throwing this in the yard waste bin is another small way I can keep it out of the landfill.
And that's it. That's all my resolutions for 2011. See? Not so hard.
